Civica Stratégies Welcomes Urban Planner Sylvain Gariépy

April 15, 2026 — We are delighted to announce a new collaborator at Civica Stratégies! We're joining forces with urban planner Sylvain Gariépy, who has spent nearly 30 years working toward a more sustainable, compact, and human-centered urban development.

Sylvain Gariépy has led teams of urban planning and urban design professionals on municipal, institutional, and private-sector projects as a partner at Provencher_Roy and later at BC2. These are defining projects that have helped shape Québec’s landscape, including the planning and development of the central block of the Société de développement Angus, the urban and environmental integration study for the Samuel-De Champlain Bridge, and the urban characterization of Sainte-Catherine Street West, to name just a few.

Throughout his career, he has contributed to the development of plans and regulations for numerous municipalities in Montréal and across Québec, including in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, where he worked side-by-side with former Mayor and Civica Stratégies co-founder Paola Hawa to develop a urban plan that puts the natural environment at the heart of all planning decisions.

Sylvain served on the board of directors of the Ordre des urbanistes du Québec (OUQ) for six years, including five as president. During that time, the OUQ participated in over 400 public debates on major issues and was actively involved in the development of the Quebec government's National Policy on Architecture and Land Use Planning. His outstanding contribution to the OUQ was recognized with the Prix du Mérite from the Conseil interprofessionnel du Québec (CIQ) in 2024.

Since November 2025, Sylvain Gariépy has served on the board of directors of the Société de transport de Montréal (STM), as well as on two of its committees: the Audit and Finance Committee and the Asset Oversight Committee, which he chairs.
